Voice-over Audition

Jay from Hedquist Productions called me and invited me for a voice-over audition in Mandarin. This project is for a “motion comic” style animation- Iron Man, in Mandarin.

I was invited to audition for Pepper Potts’s role which only has a few lines of script in this short animation.

I told Jay, “Sure, sure.”

Friends might see me as a confident, friendly and outgoing person. Well…. I am actually very shy!

I can dance, but I can’t act. I’ve pretty much decided to chicken-out.

Then, Jay called the second time… 🙁 That’s when I told myself a promise is a promise. I got nothing to lose, might just as well go have fun and gain some new experiences.

It was my first time being in a recording studio. I had the headset on and I could listen to my own voice. It was so cool!!! Jeffery directed the voice-over and he made me feel comfortable to play my role.

I am glad that I did it and am proud to say that “I tried something new today.” 🙂

A very good friday

14 days have passed by since I started my detox. I’ve lost ten lbs so far and am feeling great!

Every day is the usual fruit and veggie juice … it’s definitely boring. I tried not to watch cooking shows and see any food photos. Keeping myself busy also helps me from thinking about food too much.

I am not writing a fasting journal this time. I wrote a detailed one back in 2006. Here’s the link http://absoluteliving.blogspot.com/.

Karan and I have been fixing 104 West Jefferson for the past two months. We hired Bob Kiefer as our contractor. It has been such a pleasure working with him.

I’ve learned so much in this project. When all the people were enjoying their weekends and nights, we had to run to Menards so many times to get construction supplies. Also, during precious lunch time, we had meetings with contractors to be on top of every detail. We didn’t cut any corners at all and that makes me feel great. The renovation is finally done and the open house will be tomorrow and the day after, 1-3pm.

The house looks amazing. I am so proud of myself.

I am looking forward to getting my hands on the next project soon.

Here’s a copy of the open house flier. I will post some before and after photos when I have some time.

Return and Forget – Oh No!

I shop a lot, online. Clothes, teas, shampoos, dinnerware, makeup, jewelry, shoes, books, electronics, luggage, handbags, furniture, and the list goes on.

After years of online shopping experience, I am pretty good at picking the items that would please me, at good value. However, once in a while, there are misses :ohgraycloud: . Thanks to the satisfaction guarantee offered at most shops, I always make an effort to return the items (mostly unused) that are unsatisfactory. There’s no point keeping things that I don’t like and will not use.

I never checked the status of the my returns though; simply return and forget. I always assume that I just need to mail the box and the merchants will take care of the rest. Not quite!

Although I hate to audit my credit card statements, I did it today just out of curiosity to see if the returns over the past few months have been processed.

To my surprise, two perfumes (bought in December and August) that I’ve returned to the same company were never refunded to my account. Another company charged me $9.95 for return postage even though I didn’t use their return shipping label. :ohscold:

OMG!!!!

I am pretty disorganized, but luckily I managed to dig out the order details and the return delivery confirmations (it’s good to keep these records!!) and emailed the info to the merchants (big pat on my back).

At the end, both merchants have agreed to refund my $ back.

Perfume 1 Refund: $46 (after minus a % of restocking fee)

Perfume 2 Refund: $41 (after minus a % of restocking fee)

Shipping Refund: $9.95

Grand total refund = $96.95

Hooray! I am $96.95 richer just for being a smarter consumer.

What if, just what if I didn’t audit my account?

IMPORTANT: I have to remember to check my statements two weeks from now to make sure the merchants do what they’ve promised me!!

Not all eCommerce systems are perfect and there are human errors. So, be aware and always check audit your credit card statements.

I feeeeeel SO smarrrrrt! Grrrrrr….! :kehappy:

Sold!

Since I had so much fun at last week’s antique auction, I went for a different kind of auction today – a house auction.

The weather was miserable; cold, rainy, windy… but my heart was pumping!

010An auction is not a joke; it’s a contract. The winner is required to put 20% down the day of auction and pay the balance within a month. The house will be sold in as-is condition.

I wasn’t afraid (okay, I was feeling nervous silently). I was prepared. I’ve done my homework.

Before the auction, I hired an inspector to inspect the house and checked out the neighborhood. I observed the bidding process and studied buyers’ bidding behavior at previous auctions.

I have a budget in mind.  Well, I was bidding on behalf of a company, so I was given a specific budget to work with.

There were quite a few people showed up (some investors, some private buyers, some curious people) at the auction. It was hard to tell who was serious and who wasn’t. I walked around the house and didn’t ‘overhear’ any useful information. 🙁

You should never let other people know about your budget, especially the auctioneer. Auctioneer works for the seller. He wants the bid to go as high as possible because he will receive a commission based on the sale price. You lose if you show your number first.

The bidding began.  My heart was racing at high speed, but I couldn’t show. I had to be patient.

I paced myself on my bidding and became aggressive when I needed.

Long story short, I won the bid, on budget. Sold!!!! Oh man, I had such an adrenalin rush.

So proud of myself and I gave myself a big pat on my back. :kehappy:

Despite of the ‘better stay home’ weather, some friends showed up to give me some support.  Thank You, Thank You!!!

Another day, another crazy OuOu story. Now, off to the next project.

Remember, Thoughts Become Things.

Good night.

My Independence Day

I woke up.

OMG! I could see the words on a book cover from five feet away.

09/09/2009

Nine is considered a very auspicious number in Chinese culture because it sounds like the word “longlasting” (久).  Therefore, to choose  09/09/09 for a life changing experience is not only appropriate but poetic as well. :=)

Upon recommendation from my sister, I decided to improve my vision at Centre for Sight Laser Eye Centre in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The cost of LASIK is around RM4000 (approx. USD 1200) and RM6000 for the custom package.  It’s much cheaper than the prices in USA.

My assigned patient ID is 09090, another beautiful number. Isn’t it a lucky sign? 🙂

I’ve watched videos and read a lot about LASIK surgery, so I am very familiar with the procedure.

My surgeon was Dr. Choong Yean Yaw and I had full confidence in his ability to perfom a successful LASIK surgery.

My sister, Mee Ming volunteered to help me record my big day.  What a brave girl. 🙂

During the procedure, my eyes were numb but I was fully aware of what was going on. I must admit I was SHIT scared when the incision was made to create the round corneal flap. Maybe I shouldn’t have watched the LASIK video afterall. All I could do was to focus, and think positively during the surgery.

My surgery went well despite of a minor delay due to a technical issue with the operation chair prior to the surgery.  Dr. Choong and his team gave me the impression that there’s nothing they can’t handle.

I celebrate my freedom today. I am freed from wearing sweaty and foggy glasses. No more blurry vision while swimming or in the sauna room. I can now wear sunglasses without contacts. No more cleaning contact lenses. If you wear contacts or glasses, you know what I am talking about.

Sharing with you here it’s a video edited by me (see below). I know I shouldn’t overwork my eyes after the surgery, but I can’t help myself.
