Karan’s Second Surf

5/1/2009

Here are some photos of Karan’s second surf on Waikiki.

I waited and waited and waited for his stand up on surfboard shots, but ZZZZ ….. wasn’t able to catch those rare moments. 🙂

Karan is wearing his newly bought rash guard in the photos.

FYI, rash guard protects your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun and surfer’s rash (from laying on the surfboard to paddle out to the wave breaks).

Beach Activities

5/1/2009

Before moving to the east side of Oahu, we stopped by Waikiki Beach in the morning to receive some beach loving.

Karan bought his rash guard last night and was excited to surf for the second time. Radim was feeling a little unwell, so didn’t mind to be a total beach bum today, like me.

Waikiki Beach has a different feel in the morning than late afternoon.

Entering the beach

There’s no entrance fee to any beaches on Oahu and most of the beaches are easily accessible. Beach parks have restrooms, picnic areas, and life guards.

If surfing is not your cup of tea, no problem. There’s plenty to do on Waikiki Beach. See photos below.

Chilling at Waikiki Beach (Part 1)

4/29/2009

I chilled at Waikiki Beach in the late afternoon. This was the same day when Karan took his surf lesson. When I wasn’t boogie boarding, I went people watching. 🙂 I wish I had better zoom lens!

This was my second Waikiki sunset (why do women always count?). Although the sky was very cloudy and gloomy, the sunset was still as breathtaking and mesmerizing as my first Waikiki sunset.

Three Amigos Go Surfing

4/29/2009

After work today, the three amigos (Karan, Radim & Kim) wanted to go surfing.

I don’t know how they could go surfing after a full day of work (6am – 3pm). But I guess that was their way of unwind after a long day.

We just walked to Waikiki beach from our apartment since there was no need to drive.

Boogie Board

What is boogie boarding (bodyboarding)?
– Boogie boarding is where you ride a wave on a much shorter surfboard that is made of foam. It’s a real blast! 🙂

Radim and Kim paddled into the waves and started riding while Karan get a surf lesson (see previous post).

I just chilled on the beach. I tried to take some surf photos of the three amigos, but my little Canon point and shoot camera could only do so much … See photos below.

My First Waikiki Sunset

4/27/2009 Evening

Our apartment has no ocean view. But it is located at a great location! It’s only two blocks away from Waikiki beach.

Radim and I decided to go check out the beach before sunset. Karan was too pooped out from work that he couldn’t get out of bed to join us.

The weather was breezy and not humid (I wasn’t sweating!).

Waikiki beach has a different feel than Miami beach. I think the difference is in the people and the local culture. Most of the people here are so polite and happy. In Miami, I saw ladies running around in high heels, sexy clothes, makeup, etc. Not so much in Waikiki.

I didn’t want to take the time to go to the quieter part of Waikiki. So, I just went straight down the road and in five minutes, I was at the beach.

Oh boy! Soft sand, clear sky, not-so-hot-not-so-cold weather (another word for this kinda weather is “PERFECT”), island music in the background,… How could I not love this?

How much is the surf board rental rate? You would have to ask Radim. I wasn’t paying attention. I was too busy posing.

Me at Waikiki Beach

Radim was like a big kid in a candy store. He went for a swim since it was too late to rent a surf board.

I laid my towel down on the beach and just tried to take in the view and feel. It was really, really relaxing!!

There were quite a few people on the beach, but not overly crowded. Not one was shouting or being obnoxious. The beach wasn’t noisy at all!

More people …

I got sick of people blocking my view. So, I just laid down, closed my eyes, and be in the moment.

I called Karan and asked him to come out. Too bad that he was still too tired!!! Bummer! 🙁

Radim came back from the swim and we joined the photography crowd just before the sun went down.
