Cooking Again

After a month long of having raw fruits and veggies, finally I started cooking again yesterday. It was mostly for Karan.

Kai was happy to enjoy the aroma from the food.

I miss my raw food. So, I try to have at least something raw every day. Cucumber, strawberries, grape fruit, figs, etc. Fresh fruits/veggies are so full of life. My body can definitely recognize that.

I ate a tiny slice of cold oven baked cake. I couldn’t resist. It was so good.

To make myself feel better, I did 50 sit-ups. 🙂

Another Overeating Day

To cope with winter depression, I lost my control over food. :kebored: Or am I just obsessed with chow? I have been overeating almost daily, piling on whipped cream desserts and tons of carbohydrates. As a result of excessive food consumption and the lack of exercise, my body feels heavy and my mind feels dull. I really miss the feeling of starving empty stomach during the juice detox program.

Last night, I made an effort to prepare raw salad for dinner. I warned Karan in advance not to tempt me with any other goodies.

When I was preparing the salad, Karan popped a frozen pizza into the oven. &$%$$%#$# :ohbeatit:

Finishing off the pizza with fresh avocado slices, red pepper flakes, goat cheese and drizzled extra virgin olive oil all over.

Since I have trouble resisting any tasty food, even my dog could guess what happened next. Oh well, I did skip the dessert. 🙂

Holy Crabs!

Crabs

Chilli Crabs

I love crabs. I can’t get fresh dungeness crabs here in Iowa, so I cooked this dish with king crab legs.

Ingredients: Ginger, green scallions, garlic, chillies, eggs, tomatoes, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, salt, pepper, oil

Simply stir-fry all ingredients with the crabs.

Holy crabs! They are unbelievably tasty!

Stir-fry Spinach

Too bad I didn’t have any good bread to soak up every last drop of delicious sauce. I did cook some jasmine rice and stir-fried some spinach to go with the crabs. Yummo!

Chicken Rice

I was hungry for chicken rice; Singapore Chicken Rice, to be more specific.

I have never cooked chicken rice before. There was no need. It’s a very popular dish in Malaysia, so it’s available everywhere.

Now that I am abroad, it’s hard to find authentic chicken rice that has the flavor of homeland.

Thoughts become things.

The more I thought about this dish, the more I wanted to make it a reality. A Malaysian friend told me that she actually made this dish before and it’s totally do-able!

That was a huge encouragement. So, I looked up the recipe online and went for it.

I had all the ingredients and followed the recipe exact (well, by exact I meant I eyeballed the measurements). It’s not like baking a cake, so nothing has to be that exact. 🙂

I added sesame oil to the chicken after it was cooked and cut. Sesame oil has a unique fragrance and taste that I like.

I also stir-fried bean sprout chinese style to go with the chicken.

I must tell you that the result was surprisingly good, considering that was the first chicken rice from my kitchen!

If you want to improve your cooking skill, just live abroad for a few years. 🙂

The best part was sharing the dish with my Malaysian friends. What a happy day.
